Combine white sugar, brown sugar, butter, salt, rum or water in skillet. Stir occasionally.

If you prefer grainy coating, add walnuts before it turns into a dark syrup. Otherwise continue cooking.

Syrup will turn dark as it caramelize. Add walnuts. Evenly coat walnut halves with caramel syrup.

Pour walnuts on prepared tray with parchment paper. Quickly separate candied walnuts using 2 kitchen utensils. Let it cool to harden before eating or storing.
