To make Simple Syrup is as easy as 123. Simple Syrup is one of the things that can be prepared days before July 4th celebration.

Some people might not be aware what simple syrup is. It is equal part water and sugar added to your favorite drinks or smoothies.

A 12 fl oz simple syrup mix can cost you around $4 while a 4 pound cane sugar will only cost you around $7. You can make so much simple syrup with a 4 pound sugar.

July 4th is around the corner and finally it's summer time. It means picnic at the park or beaches.

We all look forward to backyard grilling with family and friends.

What's best, you can relax and sit around by the patio or around the pool having a luscious and refreshing drink.

Whether your having smoothies or cocktail drinks, it will definitely call for sugar or simple syrup. If you are lazy, granulated sugar will do but they don't always fully dissolve.

I seldom add sugar to my smoothie but sometimes fruits are not as sweet, so I tend to add something sweet like sugar.

Have you experimented adding granulated sugar in a smoothie and simple syrup on another? Did you conclude the one with simple syrup is much tastier.

When using granulated sugar, I hate that they settle at the bottom and the last sip is always too sweet. That's why I don't finish my coffee.

Did you know, you can add different flavors when making simple syrup.

Add fresh spices, herbs, lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange peel or whatever you feel like it. Shelf life though won't be the same as the plain syrup.

Plain simple syrup can stay in the fridge for weeks while the flavored one maybe around 2 weeks.

I suggest you submerge whatever flavor you desire for about 4 hours and before storing in the fridge remove the peel or herbs added.

One of my favorite flavor is ginger. Ginger flavored syrup with soy bean dessert (taho) is delicious.

Save yourself some money make your own syrup.
