Recently, I made watermelon agua fresca and watermelon juice and I was asked how to rim a glass with salt or sugar. When I made these drinks, I rimmed all the glasses with salt. I do a combination of salt and sugar and sometimes paprika with spicy margarita.

I have posted a few drinks already and just realized I haven't posted how to rim a glass with salt or sugar or any dry ingredient until I was asked by my friend's daughter. So here you go.

Before rimming the glass, chill it in the fridge for an hour. Take a bowl, a saucer or a plate big enough to accommodate the opening of the glass. Slice a piece of lime or lemon and rub it gently around the rim. Another way to moisten the rim is to add water in a saucer. Flip the glass and press it in the water. Get another saucer, add salt, sugar or any dry ingredient you desire. Flip the glass and gently press in the salt or sugar. With this technique, you end up with salt or sugar inside the rim. If you don’t want salt or sugar inside the rim, wipe it with a paper towel or your finger.

To avoid getting salt or sugar inside the rim, another way of doing it is to tilt the bowl and glass on one side and slowly rotating the glass around.

I prefer to use coarse salt or sugar, but regular salt and sugar will do.
