Watermelon Juice is easy to make and can cool you off during hot summer days! It’s officially Fall today, but it’s never too late to make this refreshing drink.
Watermelon is still in season and I have 10 mini watermelons sitting in my kitchen. A few days ago, I got 5 more watermelons since it was on sale for 75 cents.
On Labor day, I made Tequila Watermelon Agua Fresca and it was a hit with everyone. I wonder why?
Growing up I never liked watermelon. It felt like eating sand and everyone around me kept saying it’s the best part. You know how grainy it is when sweet.
Well, now that I am older it seems like everything I never liked as a kid is becoming a favorite. This summer after every meal, I’m always having watermelon as my dessert.
I can’t believe I’m craving it like crazy maybe because this summer is too hot. Thank God, it is already Fall but we’re still in the triple digits.
Usually, when I make watermelon juice I have 2 pitchers in the fridge. While relaxing, I might have a glass or two with a shot of tequila or vodka. Yum, it such a refreshing drink for the summer time.
It’s a summer thirst quencher especially if I’m out in yard barbecuing. Now, I am craving for barbecue and it pairs well with Watermelon, Feta and Tomato salad.
How to Make Watermelon Juice Drink
When I prepare this juice or any watermelon drink, I use 2 mini watermelons. After removing watermelon from rind and cut into cubes, I take half and place it in the freezer while the other half goes to the fridge.
Make sure when you freeze the watermelon to separate it into portions so it is easier to blend. Once watermelon is frozen, you can start making your juice.
Depending on how big your blender is, I take ½ frozen and ½ chilled watermelon. Add water and simple syrup. Blend and pour in pitcher with ice.
If you like, rim your glasses with sugar, salt or a combination of both and garnish with lime wedges, fresh mint or basil leaves. Don't forget to chill your glasses for at least an hour in the fridge.
If you are so anxious to make this watermelon juice drink and have no time to freeze or chill it, just add about 8 - 10 ice cubes in the blender.
If you don’t have simple syrup or lazy to make one you may substitute it with granulated white sugar.
When making any drink, I prefer using simple syrup. It annoys me to see sugar that did not dissolved at the bottom of pitcher.
Simple syrup is so easy to make. In a sauce pan, add equal parts of sugar and water. Boil it until sugar is dissolved. Transfer to a sealed container and place in the fridge.
I even leave it in my kitchen counter for a week and it is fine. That’s it. It is ready anytime you need it.
Watermelons are so sweet when in season so it might not even require simple syrup or sugar. Have a sip and see if it needs some sugar.
Also, when I make watermelon juice I don’t strain it. There’s hardly any seeds in mini watermelons. If there are any, they're very tiny and soft. So it is your choice. Strain or not strain!
When making this juice, you can make popsicles too and kids will love it. While adults can enjoy this drink with a shot of booze. Get your tequila or vodka out and guest can help themselves.
